Why Intent to File Matters?

Category:

Waiting to file your VA claim can cost you thousands. One step protects that time. Most veterans miss it. An Intent to File is how you secure your effective date under 38 CFR Part 3. It tells the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs you plan to file a claim. If your claim is later granted, compensation can go back to that date. You then have one year to submit the full claim. It does not prove your claim. It protects your timeline.
