What Makes a Diagnosis "Current" to VA (Real Standard)

You can have a diagnosis—and still get denied. Because the VA says it’s not “current.” A “current diagnosis” means the condition exists now or during the claim period. Under 38 CFR Part 3, service connection requires a present disability—not just something documented years ago. A past diagnosis alone does not qualify if there is no evidence it continued or existed while the claim was active.
