How VA rates Knee Strain: Why Most Veterans Get 10%

Most veterans with knee strain receive a 10% VA disability rating, while some get 0% and only a few qualify for higher ratings. In this video, we explain how the VA actually evaluates knee conditions and why functional loss — not just pain — determines your rating.

Learn how the VA reviews range of motion (flexion and extension), instability, and meniscal involvement under 38 CFR Part 4. We also explain why many claims receive 0% ratings when motion is normal, and why 10% is the most common rating when painful motion or mild functional impairment is documented.

You’ll also see what evidence can support higher ratings, including significant motion limitation, instability, locking, swelling, or joint effusion. Understanding how functional impairment is documented can help veterans avoid getting stuck at 10%.
