How The VA Rates Cervical Strain
How does the VA rate cervical strain? In this Vets Portal lesson, we explain how VA disability ratings for cervical strain are evaluated under Diagnostic Code 5237. You’ll learn how cervical range of motion, forward flexion, muscle spasm, guarding, painful motion, functional loss, and ankylosis can affect the evaluation, along with an overview of the 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 100% levels.
This video also explains what types of medical and functional evidence may be considered, including range-of-motion measurements, treatment records, physical therapy, examinations, and documented neurological problems. Presented by Vets Portal and KDVMA, this educational lesson is designed to help veterans better understand how cervical strain evaluations work and what factors the VA considers when determining the appropriate rating.
